Context, subjectivity, individualism, floss (that is, cotton candy), art that strongly affects the audience: obsession with these is only one affect of fog on the poetic imagination. The object is to smother with noise the compulsive relation between misfortune and the bird that brought the mist. A Republican President, the Ancient Mariner – do these disturb our senses any less than they affect the mind? Other examples are a flower that pursues the engineer and mountains being submitted to a profound whiteness. Yet, of the fog associated with this area of land, the bulk remains in the initial city and rarely comes “all the way” this far, or when it comes, comes only to the hills. So we desire the experience of confused vision even more strongly and pursue the air wherever it has a quality of opaqueness. Water evaporates and this affects our hearing.
