Oakland 1946! is seeking participants. Are you a worker, a scab, or a passerby? Join us for a theatrical reenactment of the 1946 Oakland Work Holiday, in which 100,000 Oakland workers walked off the job and demanded respect during a crucial moment in U.S. history.
We need you — actors, citizens, performers, musicians, activists, regular folks — to take to the streets as part of a site-specific performance project about the 1946 Oakland General Strike. If you can hold a picket sign, carry a tune, dance in the streets, project your voice, or just want to be involved, we want you! Many levels of time commitment are possible.
Here’s what you need to do:
Show up to our first ensemble meeting. Make some picket signs, cardboard masks, props, and talk with us about the project. Ask questions. Drink beer. Be craftsy. Help us re-establish a connection between the labor movements of the past and current-day worker and community struggles. Please RSVP to oakland1946@gmail.com.
First participant meeting:
